Community Mural Project - Request for Proposals

In celebration of art and community, Chalk the Harbor will feature a variety of artists, thoughtfully placed at locations throughout the waterfront business district. In partnership with local businesses or in outdoor booths, accepted artists will be promoted through the Chalk the Harbor Event Guide which will be widely and freely distributed online and in print format.

The Community Mural Project: 

• ​Is a unique photo opportunity - a piece of original art which inspires visitors to linger and take a picture in front of it. 
• shall connect to maritime theme and/or historical elements.
• must be appropriate, safe, and built for longevity.​

• Must have a participatory component for visitors to Chalk the Harbor, Celebrating Art and Community to directly participate in:

  • Artist must be onsite to interact with the public and facilitate the participatory component. Volunteer support will be available as needed. 

  • Artist is responsible for ensuring that the public has necessary materials to successfully participate. 

• Will be placed on the exterior wall of a building, not permanently attached to walls or permanently affixed to the ground. Artwork must be finished to endure the natural elements.

Mural Artist(s) will:

• Envision the project.

• Prepare preliminary materials to explain the project (Artists will not be reimbursed for time and any materials spent on preparing preliminary materials).

• Provide preliminary budget for committee selection 

  • Budget not to exceed $1,000. 

  • Reimbursable materials and artist time may be included as budget items. 

  • Gig Harbor Waterfront Alliance is able to provide a receipt for an "in-kind" donation for any time and materials not reimbursed. 

• The Selection committee may interview artist(s) as part of the selection process. 

• Selected mural Artist will be credited in all promotional materials released by the Gig Harbor Waterfront Alliance.
