Advanced Chalk Artists Application​​

The annual Chalk the Harbor competition invites advanced artists to apply for a reserved chalking location and to complete in the Professional Group Contest Category. Accepted artists will be promoted through the Chalk the Harbor Event Guide which will be widely and freely distributed online and in print format. 

This year, Chalk the Harbor will build on its street chalking foundation and expand into a celebration of art and community In addition to chalking, the event will feature live art demonstrations, local artist showcases, and hands-on opportunities for attendees to get creative and interact with art in their own way.

Advanced Chalk Artists:

• Must produce high quality chalk art. Not required to be a "professional artist."

• Selected Artists will be assigned a designated location for chalking and will participate in the Professional Group Contest Category. 

• Gig Harbor Waterfront Alliance will credit artists when sharing their work. No other compensation is being offered. 

• Official event date and time is Saturday, August 16th from 10am to 3pm. Artists may begin work before the event officially begins. To enter the contest, all work must be completed by 3pm. 

• Artist(s) may supply their own chalk and/or may use chalk provided by organizers.

  • Only non-toxic chalk is allowed.

  • No preservatives may be used as art is intended to be celebrated, photographed and then allowed to deteriorate naturally. 

  • Tape that can be easily removed from sidewalks may be used as part of the creation process.

  • Tape or any other items that may be a tripping hazard for the public must be removed when the artist finishes or by 3pm at the latest.
